BlockBeats News, August 7th, Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin stated in a post that he was delighted to see many mainstream Layer 2 solutions reach Stage 1 "limited training rounds." The next goal is to achieve fast withdrawals through a zero-knowledge proof system. He believes this is more important than reaching Stage 2 "without training rounds." Fast withdrawal times are crucial as they will reduce the capital costs for liquidity providers. If the native withdrawal time can be reduced to less than 1 hour in the short term and to 12 seconds in the medium term, Ethereum Layer 1 will further solidify its position as the default platform for issuing assets and as the economic center of the Ethereum ecosystem.

For this to happen, we need to abandon the Optimistic proof system, which fundamentally requires waiting for several days to withdraw. Historically, zero-knowledge proof technology has been immature and costly, making Optimistic proof a wise and secure choice. However, this situation is rapidly changing, with the 2-of-3 ZK + OP + TEE proof system strategy striking a balance between security, speed, and maturity. In the long run, we will eventually achieve almost instantaneous cross-L2 native asset transfers through L1.

BlockBeats Note: Stage 1 and Stage 2 are used to assess the maturity and decentralization level of Layer 2 rollups. Stage 1 involves limited training rounds, allowing some lower decentralization features but requiring the rollup to meet basic security and functional standards. Stage 2 involves no training rounds, requiring the rollup to achieve higher decentralization and security, approaching a fully decentralized state.
